F-35 Vs Su-57 fighter jets :- which is better for India?

In today’s time, Russia and America are far ahead in terms of fighter jets. While Russia has an advanced fifth generation fighter aircraft named Su-57, America has stealth aircraft like F-22 raptor and F-35.

Both the aircraft are advanced level fighter aircraft which showcase their excellence in aviation technology.

The American F-35 fighter jets have a radar technology that keeps the aircraft hidden, that is, this aircraft has been designed in such a way that the rays coming from different types of radars are absorbed in it.

Whereas Su-57 is such an aircraft that apart from being fast, can also fire in many directions.

We can compare Su-57 with America’s another fifth generation fighter jet F-35. F-35 is a variant of the American fighter jet X-35 and America has been manufacturing it since 2006.

America included this aircraft in its Marine Corps in 2014. After this, America included it in its Air Force and Navy in 2016 and 2019 respectively. The Israeli Air Force first used the F-35 in 2018.

Su-57 is made by United Aircraft Corporation. Su-57 is a twin engine stealth and multi-role fighter aircraft. Su-57 was designed in 1999 under the Mikoyan project. Su-57 old name is also T-50.

Due to lack of funds, Russia cancelled the Mikoyan project and focused on the Sukhoi project. The aircraft built under this project would replace the Su 27 and Mig 29.

The construction of the Su-57 was delayed several times but finally the Su- 57 took its first flight on 29 January 2010.

F-35 is such a stealth 5th generation fighter aircraft of modern times that can fly at the speed of supersonic and without any detection. The advanced electronic sensors and electronic systems fitted in it make it a highly capable aircraft.

America has three variants of F-35, which are F-35A, F-35B and F-35C. America is not the only country that uses F35 fighter jets, Australia is also among those that use 72 F-35A aircraft.

Countries like UK, Italy and Norway have also included F-35 fighter jets in their air force.

If India also buys F-35 and includes it in its air force, then India will be the only non NATO country that has F-35.

So far, about 1000 F-35 fighter aircraft have been manufactured, which will serve in the US Army until around 2070.

Why is 5th generation fighter aircraft important for India?

As you might know, India is building its fifth generation fighter aircraft under the AMCA project, but this project will be completed by 2035, until then India will need at least fifth generation fighter jets to ensure its air security.

China has already deployed 5th generation fighter aircraft in its country and China is making 6th generation fighter jets like J-36.

Apart from this, some defense experts say that Pakistan is talking about buying 5th generation fighter jets from China. Pakistan will buy about 40 J-35 fifth generation fighter jets from China, which is a challenge for India’s air security.

After discussing all the aspects thoroughly, it cannot be denied that India needs 5th generation fighter aircraft to maintain its air security and the security of its country.

Difference between F-35 and Su-57 fighter jets

  • Apart from being F-35 stealth, it also has more experience in the battlefield, Whereas only about 40 units of Su-57 have been made, due to which its experience in the battle field is less.
  • There are many countries in the world that use F-35, including countries like Australia, Norway, UK and Israel, Japan, but Su-57 is almost only used by Russia because only 40 units of it have been made so far.
  • 15.6m is the length of F-35 while the length of Su-57 is 20m.
  • 2800 km is the combat range of F-35 while the combat range of Su-57 is 3500 km.
  • The altitude of F-35 is 50,000 feet while the Su-57 can fly up to 54,000 feet.
  • 1931 km/h is the maximum speed of F-35 whereas the maximum speed of Su-57 is 2140 km/h.
  • The payload capacity of F-35 is 70k kg whereas the load capacity of Su-57 is exactly half of that which is 35k kg.
  • Su-57 fighter jets can cost between $35 million to $40 million per unit, while F-35 fighter jets can cost around Rs $100 million $110 million per unit.
